Evaporators make Distilled Water and Syrup
Half the thin stillage that comes from the centrifuges is reused to make mash. The other half is sent to the evaporator. The evaporator reduces the volume of the thin stillage by evaporating water from it. The water vapor is condensed to make distilled water (which is used in the process to make mash). The syrup that is left after evaporation is highly nutritious and is added to the distiller's grains.
Before a complicated system is disassembled, the system is well marked and labeled as a reference for reconstructon. 100's of photographs also come in handy at this point. This photograph shows some of the markings on the evaporator before it was dismantled.
